Children are the future of Immokalee. Caring, nurturing and breaking the cycle poverty for those children and their families is the mission of the Guadalupe Center of Immokalee. And that mission is carried out one life at a time.
On a hot August morning, Rosa, an unemployed single mother with two small children, came to the Guadalupe Center for help. She and her children were at the end of their rope.
No job, no money and no place to call home. The Center quickly stepped in and began to help build their lives again, enrolling her six-year-old son, Luis, in After School Program, where he learned to read and write in English and interact with other children.
Rosa's two-year-old daughter Jamie entered the Tiny Tots program, where she learned to talk, feed and clothe herself, cut, color, paste and make friends, all in preparation for Pre - K classes. Rosa was hired by the Center to work in our School Aged Program, where she has the security of a steady income and a stable job.
Rosa earned her GED and puts food on her table, as her children are prepared to enter public school and keep pace with their studies. The story of Rosa's family is the story of one of thousands of families we've assisted in Immokalee through the many services we offer.
For over 20 years, the Guadalupe Center has been helping to break that cycle of poverty by providing support for a strong workforce and building a stable community for the benefit of the entire area.
